Here are some suggestions to work more effectively with Clients.

(1) FIND OUT WHAT THEY WANT AND NEED.

The first thing to do is to work with the client to create a well formed outcome. Make sure they explain what they want, specifically. Get them to imagine using all the senses having achieved their goal. Make sure it is something they have control over. Finally make sure it fits in with their life and it is not only what they want but also what they need.

(2) FIND OUT WHAT THEY NEED TO DO TO GET THERE.

It's useful to understand next what they need to do in order to achieve their outcome. They will need to engage in certain behaviours on a regular basis. You need to help them find out what behaviours they are as well as what they need to do differently inside their heads.

(3) FIND OUT WHAT HAS STOPPED THEM FROM GETTING THERE.

The next thing is to become aware of what beliefs, behaviours, lack of skills and feelings have stopped them from achieving their goals. The vast majority of problems people have come from one of these areas.

(4) HELP THEM TO MAKE CHANGES IN THESE AREAS.

Using tools such as the Meta Model and Milton Model, help them change their limiting or unresourceful beliefs. Using tools such as State Management, SUbmodalities and Anchoring, help them change their state and create more useful states to be in. Figure out how they can learn whatever skills they need. Also use Anchoring and Modal Operators to make sure that they are motivated in the right direction towards engaging in more useful behaviours.

(5) GET THEM COMMITTED TOWARDS PRACTISING WHAT YOU HAVE TAUGHT THEM.

Make sure that they know it's up to them to make sure that they remain changed and moving in the most useful direction possible.

(6) GET THEM TO CONTACT YOU IN A WHILE TO FOLLOW UP AND MAKE SURE ALL IS STILL GOING WELL.

What's important is after the session they know that they have what they need to succeed. When they get in contact with you, your job is to remind them of what you did in the session and if they put it into practise they will get the results again.
