Sport Enchancing

This month lets look at some top advice on how to improve your sports performance. In the world of sport, whether playing it for fun or professionally, performing at our best is something that we crave most...

(1) When you VISUALIZE, do so VIVIDLY and make the IMAGES ASSOCIATED (You are in them), BIG, BRIGHT AND COLOURFUL. HEAR THE SOUNDS AND FEEL THE FEELINGS VIVIDLY ALSO. It's clever to remeber to let yourself move as you vizualise.. this is called micro muscle movements and Improves the imprint of the visualisation in your muscle memory.

(2) Set yourself 5 to 15 minutes every day to find a quiet place to relax. Take this time to close your eyes, day dream your favourite fantasies, imagine your body completely relaxing and imagine how you would feel if you knew you couldn't fail. Make the images as vivid as possible and enjoy the relaxation with complete abandonment for a few minutes. You can also offer yourself some positive suggestions or affirmations about yourself performing at your best while you are relaxing. The secret is not to try too hard to get it right. Focus only on HOW MUCH you are relaxing not whether you are or not.

(3) Remember yourself performing at your best VIVIDLY and as you feel the feelings intensely create an ANCHOR (pressing together your finger and thumb for example) which creates a trigger for this feeling. You'll then be able to use it when you need it most.

(4) When thinking about the event, continuously tell yourself you can win it with certainty... when you believe something with certainty it will maximise your chances of achieving it.

(5) If you hear yourself giving yourself any grief over your performance or getting in your way, chance the tone of your inner voice or tell it to 'SHUT UP'. This will begin to clean up your thinking so you are focused on what's the most useful way of thinking.

(6) Always focus on your performance, not on the competition. If you perform at your best regardless of them, you'll do yourself justice. Otherwise you will have gottn in your own way.

(7) Focus on enjoying the sport like you used to. Realise that you enjoy yourself most when you are playing well AND VISA VERSA... so focus on having a good time regardless and focus on How much you are improving by.... get your mind focused in the right direction...
