This month, I want to present to you a useful model on how to solve problems. I developed some of this from a training I did with Win Wenger and the Idea of Image Streaming.
1) THINK OF A PROBLEM THAT YOU WANT TO SOLVE AT PRESENT. Write it Down.
2) FORM THE PROBLEM AS A WELL FORMED OUTCOME: POSITIVE, SPECIFIC, SENSORY BASED (What will you be able to see, hear and feel when you have achieved it?), ECOLOGICAL (That it's worth getting and the benefits outweight the costs) and CONTROLLABLE BY YOU.
3) ASK YOURSELF WHAT STOPPED YOU FROM SOLVING THIS PROBLEM.
4) ASK YOURSELF WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU SOLVED THIS PROBLEM.
5) WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING YOU CAN POSSIBLY THINK OF THAT WOULD HELP YOU TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. Keep writing for 25 minutes.
6) SIT BACK AND IMAGE STREAM FOR A WHILE. This means, simply let your mind wander and report what you are imagining in as much detail as possible. Be as vivid in your description of it all. Do this for 10 minutes.
7) GO THROUGH WHAT YOU HAVE RECORDED OR WRITTEN DOWN IN THE IMAGE STREAM. Identify any patterns that emerge in them and ask yourself how can they help you solve this problem or get a different perspective on the situation.
8) THINK OF A HERO YOU HAVE AND ASK HOW THEY WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
9) TAKE THE INFORMATION THAT ARISES FROM THESE DIFFERENT APPROACHES (Questions 2, 3,4, 5, 7 and 8) and Define what actions you need to take from here on in.
10) SET AN ACTION PLAN FOR THE NEXT MONTH ON THE STEPS YOU WILL TAKE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
