Here are some suggestions to how you can overcome a phobia. Anyone of these on there on could work on fears and phobias. (Fears are things that you are scared to do but do. Phobias are things that you have been too scared to do)
1) Think about the thing that scares you. Become aware of which direction you can feel the feeling of fear moving in your body. Imagine taking the feeling out of your body, turning it around and putting it back in so that it spins in the opposite direction. Continue to spin the feeling faster and faster the opposite way around and think about the fearful object or situation. You will find yourself already feeling completely different about it..
2) Find out the intention behind the phobia. Most experiences of fear have the intention of protecting the person in some way. Find some other ways that you can protect youself with a more useful behaviour while fulfilling the positive intention. This is simple reframing but will prove immensely valuable.
3) Create powerful states of confidence and strength OR humour and relaxation, ANCHOR them and fire them off when you are thinking about the fear. This is known as collapsing anchors. The feeling of confidence or humour must be intensified so that it is really strong and then when you feel these good feelings intensely think about the phobia.
4) Be aware of your physiology. Often when we have a phobia we get ourselves into the phobic state by getting our physiology to go into the state first automatically. Be aware of how your physiology changes when you think of the fear or phobia and play around with your physiology. Move your shoulders into a different position, breath differently, stand differently, bring your awareness of your body down to your solar plexus.
5) Begin to make light of the phobia or fear. Make up as many jokes as you can about it and take every opportunity to joke about having this phobia. This will make the fear/phobia easier to eliminate.
6) Use the Fast Phobia cure.
i. Imagine yourself in a cinema behind a projector booth watching yourself sitting in the cinema watching yourself on the screen. Imagine you are seeing yourself watching a movie of a time where you were fearful or first had the phobia.
ii. Imagine the movie running right through from a point in time before the experience right through till after you had survived the experience and all was ok.
iii. Imagine stepping into the screen at the end of the movie and run the entire movie backwards inside your mind. See the sights backwards, hear the sounds backwards, feel the feelings backwards.
iv. Run it backwards while you are in it really quickly. Do this a number of times.
v. You will find it difficult to feel the fear the same way.
