How be Healthier
Weight Loss
• Reduce & Eliminate intake of Sugar
Sugar is now the number one cause of obesity in the world, in fact it always was! It has absolutely no nutritional value and even the smallest amount can cause your body to store body fat. If you want to lose weight avoid it.
How? It's in most, if not all processed foods. The best way to identify it is look at the ingredients (there should be no more than 6) If sugar is listed near the top then there is a lot of it in that product. Watch out for hidden sugars such as: Brown cane sugar, High fructose corn syrup (in all fizzy drinks), glucose, fructose and also aspartame & aceslufame k even organic sugar is still sugar.
• Watch out for fatty Carbohydrates
These are the White foods - Bread, cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes and anything made from white refined flour. The problem with these is that it is very easy to over eat on these foods without realising the calorie content. 1 dried handful or 50-75 grams of pasta/rice contains about 300 calories. Most people eat 3-4 times this amount. Add a sauce and some protein and your consuming over half your daily calorie intake in one meal. Your body can't handle that amount of calories so guess where they end up? Body Fat!
What to eat instead? Whole foods such as Beans (kidney beans, chic peas etc.), Bulgar, Quinoa and Oats. You can find these in most health food shops just let the assistant know what you're looking for.
• Eat Little And Often
The best way to avoid getting hungry and stimulate the fat burning machine within you is to eat 5-6 times a day. Now before you start telling yourself all about how that's too hard just hear me out (and use the mantra) Breakfast, lunch and dinner that's 3 and then 2-3 snacks. Your snacks must contain protein because this will leave you feeling full and satisfied. Nuts & Seeds are great mixed with some natural organic yogurt (I recommend Glenisk) add some strawberries and you've got a delicious snack.
Also when I'm preparing my food I make enough to last me for 2-3 meals and then carry it with me in a Tupperware container so I can snack on it when I need to. Every 3-4 hours is best. Breakfast at 7, Snack at 10, Small Lunch at 1, Same again at 4, Dinner at 7. Try it out and I guarantee you will never get hungry. In fact, what could happen is that you'll soon feel like eating less each time.
Eliminate fatigue and discover vibrant energy.
• Eat more fat.
Our brains are made up primarily of fat and it is a vital component of our health. If you suffer from fatigue or just want boundless energy then eat more fat. Not all fats are created equal though so here's a quick science bit. Most fat in its natural form is fine for us but when it is heated or becomes rancid it then turns into a lethal substance. Lethal might sound a bit extreme but trust me if you researched the countless reports I have you would wholeheartedly agree with me.
So, what's good? Omega 3 from oily fish is without doubt the best - Salmon (Choose the Wild Atlantic variety as farmed Salmon contains very little beneficial fats and a lot of bacteria) Mackerel and Herring are good choices too. Eat fish 3 times a week and your well on your way. Flaxseeds or linseeds also contain Omega 3. Extra Virgin Coconut oil is the best to cook with as it does not get damaged with heat and Extra Virgin Olive oil is perfect for dressings. You can also supplement with Fish oil capsules or Udo's Oil. (Both can be found in any health food shop)
And what's bad? Any commercially refined oils such as Margarine which is hydrogenated vegetable oil and has been deemed as one of the most harmful food additives on the market, Sunflower oil, Canola oil etc Unless it says Extra Virgin on the label then avoid it.
• Vegetables
Ok we all know that vegetables are good for us but lets face it we can always eat more. The best way I've found to increase my veg intake, and trust me when you follow this next piece of advice you'll notice an increase in energy equivalent to an outboard motor being added to your rear! So the best and most efficient way to eat more vegetables is? To juice them.
Buy a good quality juicer and juice your veg first thing in the morning. The nutrients in the veg will be absorbed straight into your system and give you more of a kick than 3 pints of coffee ever could. Oh yeah, avoid drinking more than 1-2 cups of coffee a day as it depletes your long term energy.
• Water
Over 75% of the population are chronically dehydrated and probably 95% of all statistics are made up! However, We need water to think, to move and to support every system in our body so when you drink water aim to get at least 2 litres in a day. And its good to go to the toilet often because that means you're eliminating harmful toxins from your body which will boost your energy even more.
If you want to change anything about your health do it now because tomorrow doesn't exist. I offer a 12 week nutritional program that will allow you to discover how you can change you life through the food you eat.
