anger management

Lets look at some top advice on how to manage your anger. Remember some of the most common sense is often the most uncommon practise, so beware...

(1) Find an artistic way of expressing your anger… through poetry, music or art.

(2) Think about the people that have made you angry and imagine them in black and white with clowns noses and big feet and speaking in a squeaky Mickey Mouse tone of voice… move them further away and imagine them in a small little photograph.

(3) Use every opportunity to exaggerate the situations in humorous ways… anger and humour are not that far away from each other. So when you make fun out of exaggerating the situations that provoked you… you’ll find you’ll get a laugh out of it all.

(4) Repeat the mantra inside your head over and over again in a ‘who cares’ tone of voice: “So the f*** what? So the f*** what???”. What this does is that it gets the mind to stop the train of anger thinking and begins to create a state of ‘apathy’, which is useful in that situation.

(5) Whenever you notice yourself beginning to rise, step outside of yourself and look at yourself beginning to get angry.. imagine yourself going way over the top and losing the rag altogether and see if that achieves nothing. When you gain some perspective and realise it’s fundamentally useless, it puts an end to your problem quickly.

(6) Be aware of when a person is trying to make you angry. When you know that is what they want to do, it makes it easy for you to deliberately stay calm knowing that will get to them so much more.

(7) Practise breathing in and exhaling like you were relaxing into a nice warm bath.. practise this form of breathing and use it whenever you find yourself feeling a little annoyed. Anger is a single that thing aren’t as you want them to be. Getting angry often doesn’t help, when you change your physiology, you get to look at the situation in a smarter light!!
