Why Bother Doing Anything? PDF Print E-mail
Why Bother Doing Anything?

It never fails to amaze me these days, when I watch the television, how many advertisements are aimed at selling us good feelings. Buy the best dress, wash your clothes even whiter, sort out your credit mess, have a new car, a holiday of your dreams. By and buy you're sure to feel better....butt, for how long?.

I worked with top sportspeople, they were fit, they knew what to do, understood all the rules, had it down big-time. Yet some days they would do well and others they would do badly. Nothing had changed except the way they thought about what they were trying to do.

I dealt with top business people, they wanted everyone who worked for them to produce the same quality of work they did. They knew that most people just didn't have the same 'Attitude ' to work as they have, so I'd ask them to describe ' How ' they produced this special ' Attitude '. That's when things go quiet or I'd hear something like "well you've either got it or you haven't ", " it's something your born with ", or some such nonsense.

Ever heard of that 'Law' that says 80% of the wealth is produced by 20% of the people. It is quoted by people who I assume believe they are in the 20%, so four out of every five of us is stuffed then? Do you believe that? Or are you a twenty percenter?

Somebody shouts " DUCK ", do you take a moment to think it through and consider all the options, or do you just duck quickly and then try to figure out what's going on? Hopefully the later is your response and it teaches a valuable lesson, you respond far faster than you think, consciously that is. So isn't that what you do naturally, sure it is, or you'd get nothing done. Each of us is responding to our surroundings and responding automatically to those things we consider familiar. It's how we work so efficiently. So when someone tells you that your responses can me very different if you learn a few new ideas what's your response to them, curiosity or what? Do you just duck into a pre-programmed response or do you want to find out more?

I know that the 80% law is nonsense, you do as well don't you, even if you don't yet know why. I also know, as you somehow do, that people are not born with an ' Attitude ', they develop, or learn, to have one over time. Sportspeople are coming to realise that there is something else to producing results than mere physical prowess and we all know how long that good feeling lasts when we spend money to buy it.

Trouble is we live in a society that seems to think that doing anything with our brains is a sign of weakness, something's 'not normal', it's an old stigma. It's as stupid as believing that getting drunk means you're a real man, or engaging in some other equally stupid behavior means your acceptable to some group or mindset. NLP isn't about getting down to anal-ising ourselves or others, it's about putting some better ideas on top of some of the more stupid ones people have stuck in our heads whilst we really were not paying attention. It's a way of developing an attitude of thinking about our thinking and creating better options for ourselves and those around us.

Boy, over the years I've heard every possible reason to do nothing with my life, to accept who I am and just accept that's my lot in life. I've heard descriptions of NLP that would raise your hair and frighten the pants off you. I know people who truely believe that people NEVER really change, sound familiar?

Well listen up for a moment and keep these words in mind.

I never really listened to anyone who told me "it's impossible", if anything I wanted to prove them wrong as it scared the hell out of me that I might become as stuck as them. I went along and did some NLP training and then I noticed the difference it made in my life, then I went back and did some more. Fact is it's completely changed the way I see life. I lost nothing and gained everything, I know what I'm looking for and what's worth looking for and know exactly how to go about getting it. I've changed, people have noticed whilst they've remained much as they were. They notice yet still try to tell me people never change, maybe that's just a comment about their own life, they're scared to and don't want you to. Nothing like keeping everything the same and nice and predictable.

So, the reason I'm writing this is to tell you I know these guys and I know they know what they are doing. Their job is to head you in a direction and give you some really useful tools for your journey and I know they are more than capable of doing this. I want a better world to live in but I don't preach to everyone I just take every opportunity of helping them make better decisions about their life, that way the world will grow saner one person at a time, and that will do for now. So take this opportunity to make a decision that will be with all the other wonderful decisions you've ever made. Now is always a good time to get ahead of good ideas!

They say it's all in the mind, I'm telling you it is.

NLP for Sceptics and Cynics PDF Print E-mail
NLP: Educating the Skeptics & Cynics

When I first got into this area of NLP, I was a cynic totally and completely. In no way did I believe that a phobia could be cured so quickly, that you could feel really good most of the time or that you could change your beliefs so easily. Ireland, I believe, is quite a cynical nation and many of the people who I have met have been very sceptical about NLP like me when I first began exploring the area.

What I have to say is not to convince the sceptics or cynics out there that NLP has all the answers or indeed that it is the solution to most of your problems. It is only a different way of thinking. It is a way of thinking which challenges the alternatives. There are lots of different ways about looking at the way we think or behave and the way we do things. NLP shows us ways of looking at these things, which are, by their very nature, useful.

The art of using NLP is to begin being more cynical about all that, which made you feel bad and more open to what works for you usefully. We all have choices. If we choose to look at NLP as a cult or as a pop psychology movement filled with hype then we could but we would be missing what it is truly about. We would be missing all the things we could get from it. We would be missing all the tools we could learn which could help us in our lives. We would be missing out on valuable learnings because we prefer to ‘feel right’ than we do to help ourselves.

I still think that there is a need for cynicism and skeptisism but it’s vastly overrated. I am still cynical about certain things but only until I gain and experience in it. When I experience something myself that’s when I will judge if it works or not, if it’s valid or not.

In the world we live in, distinguishing what is real and not, what is true and not, what is right and not, is not an easy task. For every scientist you can give me to prove one side of some argument I can give you another who can prove the exact opposite. We all live in these models of the world and from them we have certain views, certain ways of speaking about things, different feelings about things.

Some of our models hold us back from being effective and some of them allow us to be effective. If we believe we are good learners, that will open up our learning channels and allow us to take in information more easily. If we believe we are bad musically then our belief will hold us back. We will use it as the blueprint for our efforts in music and we will work to fail.. it’s a self fulfilling prophecy.

My training is as a researcher, a scientist, but I’ve always preferred getting my hands dirty and practising in the real world. The fundamental flaw I’ve found in science was not that they didn’t accept things were true until they got proof, it’s the type of proof that they are looking for.

I won’t except anything as true unless I have proof and the proof I’m talking about is an experience. According to the scientific method in all cases proof exists according to certain rules that must be followed for standardisation yet most of the time standardisation simply restricts the ability of the experiment to work properly.

The Best Explanation of NLP PDF Print E-mail
The Best Explanation of NLP

The best explanation I have of NLP however was described best by it's co-founder: Dr Richard Bandler when he says:

"The reason for my life's work is twofold.. I wanted to give people freedom and make people smarter"

For me, my experience is that I have become vastly smarter since exploring the 'hallucination of NLP' and that I have achieved many freedoms.

I am free from feeling bad most of the time. I am free from the limitations imposed on me by my past beliefs. I am free from intimidation from anyone. I am free from any irrational fears. I am free from letting my circumstances control how I feel. I am free from the prison of life living me instead of me living it.

I am smarter in the way I approach problems and find solutions. I am smarter in where I focus my time and energy. I am smarter in considering my beliefs and how they help me. I am smarter in the way I communicate, understand and intract with other people. I am smarter in my approach to the stresses and strains of life. I am smarter in my thinking about the world, about life. I am smarter in my ability to learn and enjoy the wonder and de light the world brings.

I am happier too.

What does NLP stand for? PDF Print E-mail
WHAT DOES NLP STAND FOR?

N is for Neuro which refers to how the brain and nervous system makes sense of the world through the five senses.

L is for Linguistic which refers to the Language and non-verbal communication systems through which representations are given meaning.

P is for Programming which refers to our ability to reprogramme ourselves in positive ways for desired outcomes, incomes and directions.

WHAT IS NLP COMPRISED OF?

NLP is an attitude of curiousity, playfullness and adventure. It is an attitude which manifests in finding out what influences someone and how people do what they do.

NLP is a methodology based on the overall belief that human behaviour has a structure which can be learned, changed and maintained. This can be accomplished by using the skills of NLP to realise the structure in different contexts.

NLP is also a technology through which people can learn to learn better, learn to feel better, learn to enjoy life better. It is a technology which is sometimes explained as providing you with a Users Manual for your Brain.

Basics of NLP

 WHAT EXACTLY IS NLP?

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is 'the study of the structure of subjective experience'. It explores HOW we think and HOW we behave. It allows you to discover what's going on when you are doing something well and not doing something well. It allows you to find out how other people do things effectively. It shows you the difference that makes a difference. People have used NLP to improve their lives in many different ways.

WHO USES NLP?

NLP is fast becoming one of the most sought tools of human enhancement and performance improvement that has ever been known. Science Digest describes it as 'the most important synthesis of information available today about human communication'. It is currently used by therapists, business men and women, teachers, sales people, advertisers, alternative practitioners, lawyers, doctors, health professionals, lecturers, home makers to name but a few....

SO WHAT IS IN IT FOR ME?

Learn how to learn faster, more enjoyably and better.
Learn how behavior is created, changed and maintained…

Perform at your peak more often.
Understand how to communicate more effectively.
Realise the secrets of how to feel confident, motivated, Energised in an instant.
Attain valuable skills of thinking more usefully.
Excel in more ways than you could ever expect.
Succeed more often and with greater ease.
WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

It was created and developed in the early 1970's by Dr Richard Bandler and John Grinder. Together they studied the most effective therapists at that time. From this, they formulated a methodology whereby they began to understand how these therapists were so effective and how to model other elements and contexts of human behaviour excellence
