Blaine's Act of Inspiration PDF Print E-mail
David Blaine’s recent feat succeeded in one thing: attracting massive media attention. Many were impressed and proud of David, many were appalled and disgusted. Many said that it showed the endurance of the human spirit, many said it was just another illusion. Personally, I’m of the opinion that it was a genuine act of endurance. That’s just my opinion.

What I do think is important is to figure out what we can take from this. While Blaine accomplished his feat, he apparently made use of NLP to keep himself going. This is hardly surprising as it is absolutely necessary to be running your brain in the most useful way when you are going through such an event. His very words upon leaving the box regarding how he learned to “Laugh at everything as nothing makes sense anyway” was a classic and contains much wisdom that I hope people will take to heart. He learned to appreciate the little things in life and experienced life at our most primitive.

What this says about Blaine is far more insignificant than what this says about the capability of people. To me, it’s not about surviving without food and being isolated for 44 days. It’s about learning to let go of our needs. People compare him to Jesus for Jesus walking through the desert and Buddha for Buddha’s time under the Bodhi tree. Ultimately though just like Jesus and Buddha did their acts in human form, so did Blaine. Jesus and Buddha to many are spiritual beings and Blaine is obviously just a man. What this shows is that we have the ability to get back to basics and examine life in a much more

What’s especially amazing about Blaine’s stunt is that he managed it despite all the attachments he was sure to have picked up in the modern day world. Our tolerance for not having what we want has lowered dramatically over the last few years. Many years ago, we had less and hence we expected less. Now we have more and we expect more... in fact we feel like we need more. Blaine showed us that we don’t.

Take your opinions aside about Blaine. Consider the message it can send out. Laugh at the world. Appreciate the little things. These lessons are critical. When we have too many things that we need we are at the mercy of the world. Our futures are in the hands of luck. When we begin to laugh more and appreciate more, we get to build new futures, which provide us with lots of ways to feel good.

If what you wanted to happen in your future was taken away from you… if your expected events, expected relationships, expected job, expected finances, expected house, expected car… if all that was to be taken from you, how would you be? Would you feel poor or would you decide to still feel rich? Would you give up and feel gutted or would you start again with even more determination? Those choices are yours.
