The Nature of the 'Kind of' Reality PDF Print E-mail
I was recently watching the video ‘Maybe Logic’ about the life and ideas of Robert Anton Wilson and I was filled with a need to discuss some ideas he explains in the video that he has also referred to in many of his books. They concern the nature of reality.

In the labyrinth of our minds, we create our own unique ‘take’ on the world. We experience things not how we choose to consciously but how we have learned to unconsciously. Our brain chemistry is like the environment of our minds. Sometimes it is not good and these are our bad days when things seem to get on top of us. Sometimes it is good and these are our good days when things seem to flow and when things seem easy.

One of the main problems we have is that when our environment is not good, it seems like our world is like that. Problems happen and as we take them in, we can alter our chemistry such that we create bad feelings and a bad internal state. What is important to remember is that if the world seems terrible or our lives seem like an absolute mess, it never is and they never are. It is simply because your brain chemistry is not healthy at that moment in time.

You see, we get caught up in thinking that things are the way we see them and the way we feel about them. Feelings come and go however and we continuously change the way we see things. We are constantly reviewing and revising our ways of thinking about things. When we have negative beliefs about ourselves it is because we have been convinced by ourselves while we have been in a negative state.

The key is to realise that, since it is all about chemistry, we can change the way we think and feel in our lives. Once you focus on changing the chemistry, you can build more useful states of mind which you can experience. You can make the environment healthy and happy and positive. The chemistry of your mind means that you can never experience reality as it is exactly. You can only experience it ‘kind of’ or in a ‘Maybe’ state as Robert Anton Wilson would say.

Thus, whenever you are feeling pissed off or down or annoyed or sad, whenever you feel angry or upset or disappointed, realise that your brain is allowing you to feel that. Whenever you are convinced of some negative belief, realise that it’s as untrue as it’s opposite. Instead, you don’t know what the real truth is and the best thing to do is focus on feeling as good as possible and doing the smartest and most useful things.

We have as many problems when we are feeling stressed as relaxed. We have as many great things about our lives when we are feeling delighted as we have when we are depressed. Our lives have ups and downs but it is really in our minds that everything seems great or awful. The trick is to concentrate on ensuring our minds begin to make things great. You do this by using NLP to enhance your life. By running your brain, you can take the first step towards transforming your life.
